I am a highly qualified and experienced GCSE, A Level and Key Stage 3 English teacher. I have a proven track record of achieving excellent results for my students. I have taught students of varying abilities and I am able to tailor and differentiate lessons so that all my students can make progress. With the new Covid-19 restrictions in place, I am now able to offer online lessons on request, using new technologies to plan and deliver high quality instruction.

During my teaching career, I have been a subject mentor for student teachers from the Institute of Education (IOE). This has enabled me to develop a strong understanding of the teaching standards and methods that will help all students achieve and help all student teachers become excellent practitioners. In my full-time teaching role, I am also the lead teacher for GCSE English Resit which means that I know how to support students who have not achieved a GCSE pass. I am able to work with them so that when they re-sit they are confident, ready and able to do their best.

My key strengths are an excellent knowledge of the new GCSE English Language and Literature curriculum; excellent knowledge of the A Level Literature curriculum and many years of experience creating schemes of work and resources which help pupils to learn. I am also very aware of the importance of literacy and reading and how this impacts on a child’s development and performance in exams. With this knowledge, I will be able to really support and guide students through the complexities of the new linear exam system and equip them with the tools to succeed.

I also have lots of experience teaching SEN and EAL pupils and am able to differentiate and pace lessons to enable students to progress. Alongside this experience, I am knowledgeable on various school reading programmes (Accelerated Reader and Reading Lab) which has given me experience of helping children achieve results with their reading which is fundamental to their progress and ability to do well in all their subjects.

I am a firm believer in life-long learning and over the last few years I have completed a post-graduate diploma at Birkbeck university and I have started learning Italian.

Availability: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - 17:00 to 20:00
Saturday - 10:00 to 12:00 or 15:00 to 17:00.

Experience: 17 Years teaching full time in a secondary school; Lead Teacher for GCSE English Resit; Over ten years of experience being an English Subject Mentor for student teachers from the IOE. I also have lots of experience running intervention sessions for students before their exams and I have tutored students in after-school study clubs. I am familiar with all the relevant exam boards and can tailor lessons in line with their requirements.
