Information about Julie

I am an experienced teacher and ex-Headteacher, offering individual and group tuition in English, Maths and SATs/11+test preparation to pupils in the primary age range.

I live in New Barn, Longfield, Kent, and I offer tuition in one hour sessions. These can be online or face to face.

I tutor from my purpise built classroom in my garden at my home in New Barn, where all my resources are to hand, (although tuition can be carried out online should changing Covid restrictions dictate.)

What are the benefits of each tyoe of tuition?

Group tuition assists in children learning through each other and can be less intense for children who may find a one-to-one focus for an hour too much. Of course, group tuition is also a more economical option, although no less effective. Some children prefer the dynamics of a social context for learning, supporting and being assisted by others as individuals discover their learning strengths

One-to-one tuition is tailored and guided exclusively by you and your child, meaning that learning is specifically tailored to the individual`s needs. Some children prefer the encouragement of a teacher just for themselves for an hour.

Parents know their children best are are perfectly placed to make these decisions based on their own child and their circumstances.

Please contact me to discuss your needs prior to purchasing my details. I look forward to supporting your child towards achieving their full potential!

Kind regards,

Julie

Availability: I offer a range of small group tuition for children in Years 3 to 6. These focus on curriculum support, confidence boosting and including some groups specifically focused on preparation for 11+ and Selection Tests from Y4 or Y5.
Therefore, availability depended on the group population. Please make contact to enquire.

Experience: My beliefs and values about learning:

I am a successful (and currently full-time) primary school teacher of more than 25 years experience, having taught children from YR (aged 4 and 5) through to Y6 (aged 10 and 11). Also, as an ex-Headteacher, I understand how children need someone who understands them and their needs to facilitate their learning experiences and enable them to really thrive.

I believe that all children deserve the chance to `be` their personal best, and understand that some children need a little more encouragement and nurturing in this respect than others. For me, teaching is a real vocation. I enjoy finding the `key` to unlock the love of learning within each individual, and gain great satisfaction from seeing a child take hold of this key themselves and become an increasingly independent learner.

Children learn in different ways, and need different things from their learning experiences. Some may gain benefit in completing activities to reinforce their learning, while others may need to activate other senses, move about, sing a song, dance, or use some other physical resource to support their understanding.

In addition to having this strong focus on developing a learner`s confidence in themselves and their ability, I also acknowledge that education is a competitive business nowadays. In some areas, children are tested for admittance to `selective` secondary schools (via `11+`tests), and of course, every parent wants what is best for their child. I am able to support a child in getting to grips with the sometimes confusing elements of these tests, by familiarising them with the kinds of questions that might be asked and working with them on developing techniques and strategies to support them in the tests.

I currently teach part time in a local school, keeping my practice and DBS and safeguarding training up to date and in line with current best practice.

Julie taught my son in YR5/6 and knew how to engage him to learn as he wasn’t interested. Julie gave my son confidence & he did really well in his SATS at the time. Julie knows her stuff.

Really enjoying our time with Julie so far, my daughter is enjoying the sessions after being initially so nervous and feel she is already coming on leaps and bounds after 3 sessions. Weekly feedback is great and very helpful
