Information about Caroline
I am a neuroscience graduate and qualified teacher from the university of Nottingham and a current medical student.
I have worked in schools, universities, the NHS and pharmaceutical industry. I have been tutoring science since September 2014 and tutor in biology, chemistry and physics up to GCSE level. I also have students in their AS level year, who have remained with me after working with them at GCSE level.
I have worked with students from both the private at state sector across Derbyshire and also have experience of working with students who are disengaged from education. I have experience of various exam boards including, AQA (including the old and the newly introduced syllabus), OCR 21st century and Edexcel, including their International IGCSE course.
I am an adaptable tutor who is creative, to ensure all students make progress and reach their full potential.
I loved tutoring and education that much that it lead me to do supply/cover work across Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire. This in turn enabled me to secure a place on The University of Nottingham`s Secondary Science PGCE course where I gained Qualified Teacher Status (rated `OUTSTANDING` on my final teaching profile)and pass the academic component with Distinction.
I volunteer at a local charity and as a befriender to those at risk of social isolation. I therefore have a fully enhanced DBS check which I can provide you with so you can check my details online. I have also spent 12 months volunteering in my local A&E department.
I am currently studying graduate entry medicine at the Derby campus of the University of Nottingham, so also have experience with medical applications and interviews. As part of my previous role lecturing I also have extensive experience of personal statements. I have also successfully coached students through interviews for education/teaching courses.
I am happy to provide a free 30 minute consultation with you, which will provide you with an opportunity to ask any questions you may have and will allow me to get to know you as a family. If yourself and your son/daughter is happy, we can then continue with a tuition session directly after.

Tutoring Experience:
I have experience of teaching science at KS3 (11-14), KS4 (14-16) and at KS5 (post 16). I have taught both in secondary mainstream and also at a Post 16 college as well as having lectures on Access and Foundation courses at university. I have also spent time in an SEN provision setting to improve my awarness of supporting all learners.

Tutoring Approach:
I am a lighthearted and dynamic tutor who gives a lot of time to pupil/student voice. I think it is vital that students can dictate the sessions (if they want to/are able to) so that they can gain maximum benefit to them.
I establish a good rapport with all my tutees and this has been highlighted as a real positive with all the families I have worked with. My tutoring style is relaxed which helps put a student at ease; after all they are having extra lessons outside of school! They can however be very formal if this is what the family would prefer. I always make time to discuss the session at the end with parents/family/guardian.
I have worked with students from both the private and state sector and across the ability range. I adapt the sessions to suit the student and to engage them and maintain their curiosity.

Experience: I have a breadth of experience including science, maths, English and geography. I have also helped prepare students for interviews as well as advising them on their EPQ’s. Parent Feedback. Caroline tutored my daughter in the run up to her taking her A-Level biology and I would definitely recommend her as a tutor. She was always very prompt, was very quick to reply to any correspondence, was flexible in her lesson times and was therefore able to work around my daughters revision schedule and she really wanted my daughter to achieve her potential. She therefore went into her A-level Biology feeling well prepared and with much improved confidence.
Student Feedback. Caroline was very quick to identify the areas that I needed work on and was very effective in teaching me to a very advanced level, with the use of multiple teaching tools. Her use of exam questions meant that I was able to build upon my exam technique while learning new content, this meant that my confidence in A-Level Biology increased exponentially and as such, my revision showed much greater improvement. In learning that the essay question was of huge concern to me she made sure to plan an essay each week and set essay titles to do as extra work. This allowed me to summarise a whole topic quickly but in great depth, in addition to helping me work on longer answer questions. Her extremely friendly attitude meant that I felt comfortable in lessons and was able to ask her anything I wasn`t sure on.

Caroline tutors my daughter in AL Biology in preparation for the ALs in June. She is a committed and conscientious tutor. She is very organised, has a suitable and relevant plan for the student and very thorough and sound in the knowledge of her subject. I would recommend Miss Caroline. Her knowledge of the GCSE Syllabus and exam requirements are up to date. My son has made good progress and has grown in confidence and is now expected to do well. Miss Caroline adapts her teaching methods and presents content in different ways so that my son was able to improve his knowledge and understanding. I`m very pleased with his progress and he enjoys the lessons.

As a GCSE additional science student, I would most certainly recommend this site and Miss Caroline. The tutoring hours provided are flexible and plenty of learning resources are available. Also, very affordable I have seen a clear increase in my knowledge and confidence.
