Information about Anna

I am a 20-year-old enthusiastic, experienced tutor studying at Durham University. I am passionate about teaching and I love helping people to understand and develop their own ideas- I find tutoring an extremely rewarding job.
I have been tutoring and mentoring students since I was in school; for a year I tutored a GCSE Further Maths student and a GCSE History student whilst studying for my A-levels. I am currently tutoring 12 students, ranging in age from 6-18, in A-Level Maths and PE, GCSE/IGCSE Maths, History, English and PE and Primary English and Maths.
Achieving 3 A*s in my A-Levels and straight A*s in my GCSEs means that I know the curriculums very well and know how to answer exam questions. I have found that being a young tutor has its benefits, as being of a closer age to the student enables me to relate to them easily and they often feel less pressured and more open to ask questions to someone of a more similar age.
My experience of tutoring has enabled me to adapt to different teaching styles appropriate for different students and find varied delivery methods, as I understand that everyone learns differently.
In my spare time I enjoy playing sports, such as football and netball, reading and playing piano.

Availability: My availability is very flexible. I am available on most days and can change to suit my clients each week.

Experience: I have been tutoring and mentoring students since I was in school. For a year I have tutored a GCSE Further Maths student, meeting on a weekly basis to tackle mathematical problems and questions required for their exam. In the same year I both mentored and tutored a GCSE History student who was struggling with exam-based answers. We met two to three times a week to learn and revise content, write and discuss arguments and improve essay structures. This experience enabled me to learn how to best transfer my own skills and knowledge, whilst developing my critical and analytical feedback. Both of these jobs helped me to adapt to different teaching styles appropriate for the individual student, and learn how different styles suit different students. I have understood that everyone learns differently, and my time being a tutor had helped me find different delivery methods that work best for each pupil.

On top of this, I also mentored a young girl who was finding settling into school difficult. Together, we set goals and targets for her to achieve (for example, coming off of report card) and discussed possible reasons and solutions for her behaviour. Through this I learned that it`s important to build a personal relationship with a student and find out a bit about their lives outside of academia, in order to have a greater impact on their learning.

I am now currently tutoring 12 students, ages ranging from 6-18, in A-Level Maths and PE, GCSE Maths, English, History and PE and Primary English and Maths.

I have found that being a young tutor has its benefits, as being of a closer age to the student enables me to relate to them easily and they often feel less pressured and more open to ask questions to someone of a more similar age.

Anna was a lovely girl, very friendly and patient with my son. She explained everything as she went along and praised my son when he got the correct answers. She is very good at what she does. Unfortunately my son foumd it very difficult to engage due to a new and different way of learning compared to learning in person with his teacher at school. I have no complaints about Anna and wish her well in her academic furure.

Anna has been brilliant at tutoring our 8 year old daughter Jasmine. Jasmine really enjoys the lessons, and also tells me to say that she laughs a lot in the lessons and that Anna makes them really fun. She’s gone through a lot of new maths in a short space of time.

A very helpful, courteous and hard working tutor who understands the student and ensures that the student understands the subject by using skills in breaking complex areas down. Anna is an excellent tutor.
