Information about Bella
My name is Bella and I am an energetic, enthusiastic individual with an absolute passion for learning. I am currently taking a gap year before going to study Psychology BSc at Kings College London.
I believe education is something which enables our minds to grow to become not only more intelligent, but better adapted to the world around us. My aim as a tutor would be to share this passion for learning so other young people can develop the same fulfilment when they learn, and as a result, achieve the grades and outcomes they hope for.
I strongly believe that any mind is capable of achieving exceptional results; it all comes down to putting in the time, actively engaging in your learning and being constantly inquisitive. In addition, I believe all forms of failure are fundamental to become a high achiever as we learn from our mistakes to better our academic ability.
In terms of teaching style, I always adapt this to the individual student as no person learns the same. I will use a combination of active recall (using whiteboards), provide visual diagrams which students will be able to access and create engaging online revision resources specifically for each student. When teaching students content, I will use powerpoint presentation so all the information is tightly condensed. As both my subjects are essay based, I will provide high-level essay answers which myself and the student will go through together in order to understand what style of writing achieves top grades. In addition, I will teach students a range of exam technique which we will then apply together by practicing exam questions in timed conditions.
My knowledge of exam boards is primarily AQA as this is the board I used as a student. However, with Psychology the exam boards don`t differ massively in terms of content and I am very adaptable as during my GCSE`s we used a diverse range of exam boards. Regarding English Literature, there are certain texts I studied during my time at school, however I have a broad range of knowledge and understanding of a range of literature as I am well read. As I am so passionate about learning I am happy and keen to invest my time to better understand texts in order to tutor what meets each student`s needs at their school.
Availability: My availability is currently very flexible as I work a job where I can pick my hours so I am happy to adapt to times that fit students.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have had previous experience with tutoring in a school environment over the last year. From the months of September-November 2020, before COVID-19 restrictions, I went into my previous sixth form to help A Level students with both Psychology and English Literature. These were all one to one sessions with students of a varied ability and all of whom had an increased confidence and academic outcome from my time spent with them. In addition, I tutored with my younger brother during the first national lockdown which involved planning lessons and providing him with engaging stimuli so he was constantly adapting his learning approach.
