Information about Kathryn

I have loved History and been fascinated by it all my life and am passionate in the way I teach it. I am a dedicated teacher with a proven track record in helping my students to fulfil their potential in their exams. I have a BA (hons) degree in History from Edge Hill University as well as a PGCE in Secondary History from Reading University.
I love teaching and I find my passion for my subject is infectious. Former pupils can testify to this! I enjoy watching and reading about history as well as visiting historical sites with my family. As well as teaching History I also work as an exam marker for OCR and therefore have a good understanding of the whole examinations process.

Availability: I am available for 1:1 tuition on weekday evenings between 6 and 9pm as well as on Saturdays.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have been a qualified teacher since 2001 and have taught all year groups from Y7-13. At GCSE level I have taught courses for the 3 main exam boards and therefore have a good understanding of Edexcel, OCR and AQA. My subject knowledge at GCSE Level is very diverse as I have mainly taught Medicine Through Time, Germany 1918-45, American West, Global Terrorism, WW2 and Bletchley Park, Industrial Revolution and WW1. However, due to my degree, leadership of GCSE Humanities and KS3 teaching experience I also have a good understanding of modern world history. Through my work as an examiner, and my own degree level study, I also have a strong understanding of the Crime and Punishment modules.
At A Level I have great experience in teaching early modern and Tudor England. Both eras fascinate me personally and I have taught them to great effect for many years. I have helped many pupils to success with both AQA and OCR exam boards.
My approach to tutoring is very much driven by the needs of each individual tutee. I meet them in an initial (free) consultation where I can get to know them and identify their specific needs. I then draw up an action plan which is tailored to suit each individual and help them to fulfil their potential.
My particular strengths are in explaining and improving exam technique. For example: essay writing skills, source analysis, time management and coping with exam stress. I have a proven track record, both in school and via private tuition, of helping students improve from C/D borderline grades to A/B grades.
