Information about Richard
Hello. I am a qualified English teacher with over 7 years experience of tutoring and teaching in London high schools. I love the English language, and I enjoy sharing the excitement and enthusiasm I feel for it with my students.
My approach to tutoring is flexible and creative, tailored to each students individual needs. I believe it is important to appeal to students interests and to build from what they already know. I work with a range of students from a wide array of backgrounds and of varying abilities. My lessons are both enjoyable and rigorous, and I foster a positive learning environment so as to facilitate rapid progress and to enable my students to fulfil their potential.
I can teach a number of subjects, but English is my speciality. The school where I work has been judged "outstanding" by Ofsted at its two most recent inspections. Within the English department, I have held a number of responsibilities, including managing the delivery of the GCSE curriculum. At present I am responsible for promoting reading and improving literacy across all year groups. I have taught a range of exam boards and am particularly well-versed in the new, reformed English GCSE qualifications English Language and English Literature which come into practice this year. I am a verified IGCSE English Language moderator for the Cambridge exam board. Having worked as a sixth form tutor, I also have experience in writing UCAS statements.
At the moment, I divide my time between teaching and writing. My first play recently received productions in both Dublin and London.
