Information about Alison

I am a recently retired Headteacher of an outstanding church school where I worked for 16 years teaching all age groups, most recently Year 5 and 6. I have an honours degree in English from the University of London and a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education from Lancaster University. I was also Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and a Leading Teacher for Gifted and Talented children so can offer support for all levels of ability and a variety of learning needs. I have been a Teacher Adviser to the Standard & Testing Agency for the KS2 Spelling Punctuation and Grammar SATs as well as a SATS marker.

Sometimes our children need a little individual and personalised attention from a tutor who can motivate and guide them to build their confidence and allow them to flourish. I will do everything I can to be that tutor.

Even the very best teachers with the large classes of today can struggle to give every child exactly what they need. My desire to become a tutor was born out of a love of lifelong learning and a desire to help those children who need some extra support to get the most from a happy time at school.

Availability: Sessions times are flexible to suit you and are run in the evenings and school holidays. School holiday learning clubs can be arranged for full or half days including lunch.

My own teaching was graded outstanding by OFSTED: "The accelerated progress pupils make in the Year 5&6 class leads to well-above-average attainment. In mathematics an impressive number of children exceed the expected level for their age. In response to the inspirational teaching of English, writing improves at a brisk pace." I am an experienced Designated Safeguarding Lead and hold an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate.

I`m so glad we found Alison. My 11 year old son has ASD and Dyslexia and homeschooling was taking its toll. He was already struggling academically in school and we were concerned about the gaps in his knowledge in Maths. After my initial enquiry Alison took the time to ask some further questions to get to know my son as much as possible ahead of the first session and put measures in place so he`d feel comfortable attending. Alison was able to immediately identify the challenges for him and the gaps in knowledge and in less than 4 sessions his confidence and understanding has increased. It goes without saying that having someone like Alison tutor my son is invaluable and I think my son summed it up nicely when we came out of the last session. "Alison is really lovely and I LOVE going there".

Alison is a fantastic tutor, my son was very apprehensive about going but straight from the get go she made him feel very comfortable. I felt happy leaving him knowing he was happy with the situation. He looks forward to his lessons with Alison, he’s always very upbeat after his lesson and chats away about it which is lovely to hear. He has no complaints about his homework, he looks forward to doing it, she makes his learning very fun. My daughter also in the future will hopefully be joining Alison.

Tutors Response :

Thank you Jackie. Your feedback comments mean a lot to me. Your son is a delight to teach and it is lovely to see him flourishing.
