Information about Cecile

I genuinely believe that to teach languages, one needs passion and dedication. I particularly love the constant changing streams of young people’s perceptions of a foreign language, and the rewarding challenge of convincing them of the necessity and importance of languages in our society. In a world where people are ever more dependent upon one another, speaking other languages and understanding other cultures are paramount.
Throughout my career, I have been learning from my students that bridging the gap between teaching styles and learning styles always brings the best out of them: happy and confident students in class make successful individuals in life. Witnessing my students increasing in self-assurance and independence, while learning a language, has always been my most precious rewards.
To promote French and Spanish, I have made great use of all the facilities my schools had to offer: from the traditional but always efficient means of OHT and flashcards, to the exciting tools of Interactive Whiteboards, teaching in an entertaining and lively way will enable students to have a better grasp over a language. Recognising abilities and differentiating tasks are also essential, that is why I always plan a lesson using auditory, visual and kinaesthetic activities in order to increase my students’ well-being and self-confidence.
The importance of languages has been nicely illustrated by Nelson Mandela once: “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart”. I personally think that being a language teacher is not only preparing my students to a better future with a wider range of social opportunities, it is also broadening their human skills and vision of the world.
