I`m a friendly, patient tutor, with years of experience as a primary school teacher, specialising in mathematics and creative writing.

I know that learning, especially in maths, can feel frustrating for some children. I strongly believe that with the right approach, everyone is capable of doing well - it`s just a matter of taking time to tailor the teaching to fit the student.

While studying at Colyton Grammar School I received a matriculation offer to read Philosophy at Christ`s College, Cambridge (these offers were made to the top 1/3 of successful applicants, with an entry requirement of EE at A level). In 2011 I qualified for a fourth-year course in Management Studies, at the university`s Judge Business School.

After graduating I worked as a business consultant at IBM, and then as Development Coordinator at Children & the Arts - an East London charity dedicated to providing arts experiences for disadvantaged children and those with life-limiting illnesses.

I started work at a primary school in Walthamstow in 2018, first as a teaching assistant and then as a teacher and Maths subject leader. I also volunteered to run extra-curricular clubs, for chess, drama and bouldering.

In 2024, after helping my wonderful year 6 class to achieve the highest SATs results on record for our school, I moved back to my home town in Devon to work full time as a private tutor.

Experience: I have worked as a primary school teacher from year 1 to year 6, as well as providing 1-to-1 support for children with SEND.

Having taught classes for SATs in both KS1 and KS2, I have experience in guiding children through the process of test preparation, helping them to manage stress and exam anxiety.

Working as a private tutor, I have provided support for the 11 plus, creative writing, GCSE Maths, personal statement writing and university applications (specifically for Cambridge).

While working at IBM I benefited from training sessions on mentoring, effective communication and the provision of constructive feedback. Applying these skills to tuition helps me keep both tutees and parents informed on progress and areas for improvement.
