Information about Sophie

Hello, my name’s Sophie, and I’m a DBS-checked, HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist.

In terms of tutoring and mentoring experience, I have tutored Psychology A-Level and degree-level (BSc) psychology in the past, but am now looking to tutor under-graduate and post-graduate psychology only - all session online via Skype/Zoom/Microsoft Teams. I am currently a mentor for the Masters (MSc) psychology students at Birmingham City University.

My areas of specialist interest mainly revolve around neuropsychology and forensic psychology services.

I am a practicing Buddhist, living in a Buddhist Community in Wales. I have also worked as a Buddhist Prison Chaplain in the past. This side of my life very much influences my clinical practice, with a real passion for mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), amongst others.

• Attended lectures at Coventry University, University of Warwick and University of Birmingham in a broad range of psychological approaches to assessment, formulation and intervention.

o Core placements (x4): child and adolescent, learning disabilities, adult, and older adult mental health services (NHS).
o Specialist placements (x2): neuro-rehabilitation inpatient service (NHS) and St. Basil’s charity for children and young people at risk of homelessness (third sector)

• 2.5 days of clinical work per week, involving:
o Performed case formulations through conducting patient screening assessments, involving: use of various assessment tools; conducted in-depth self-harm and suicide risk assessment; implemented detailed risk management plan; deciphered provisional diagnoses; made shared-decisions regarding treatment.
o Facilitated guided self-help treatment based on principles of CBT, both one-to-one and in group format, face-to-face and over the telephone.
o Additional project-work, duties and responsibilities:
