Information about Ben

I am an 18 year old undergraduate at Leeds University, where I will be reading economics, starting in 2021. I am an enthusiastic, experienced tutor who is passionate about teaching and helping others learn; hoping that this will fulfil my career plan to become a teacher. I love helping students to develop their individual ideas and perspectives, therefore I find tutoring an extremely rewarding job. In my spare time I enjoy playing sports for my local town, such as football and cricket. Furthermore I also enjoy reading articles such as The Economist, to keep up to date with worldwide affairs.

Experience: I have been tutoring students since I began my A levels in 2018. For a year I have tutored a GCSE economics student, meeting on a weekly basis to tackle economic principles and theories that they did not understand, and questions required for their exams. Furthermore, in the same year I tutored a GCSE PE student who was struggling with exam-based answers and general knowledge of the specification. We met two to three times a week to revise and learn content whilst also improving the structure of their exam answers. This experience enabled me to learn how to best transfer my own knowledge and skills, whilst also developing my own critical analysis and feedback for the students answers. Both these jobs helped me to adapt to different teaching styles to cater for each students individual needs and personality, as learned how the appropriate style of tutoring differs for each student. I have understood how each student learns differently, and my previous tuition experience helped me find different delivery methods that work best for each pupil.
I have found that being a young tutor has its benefits, as being of similar age helps me relate better to the pupils, and perhaps makes it easier to build a personal relationship; which I find enhances learning. I have noticed that they often feel less pressured, and therefore feel more comfortable asking questions to develop their learning.
