Information about Amy
I am a qualified teacher and an experienced tutor who loves helping children (and adults!) to gain confidence in all areas of learning.
I have most recently worked as Head of Year 6, assisting children with preparing for their SATs and the sometimes difficult transition to secondary school, but have experience working with children throughout KS1, 2 and 3.
I am very experienced in working with children to prepare for entrance exams/11+. I am happy to provide long term support, or a short term block of booster sessions, to increase confidence and practise techniques.
I have also worked with adults who need to build their confidence in English or maths, some of whom have been taking the professional skills tests for prospective teachers.
I have a degree in English, a PGCE KS1/2, and an MA in Education, specialising in SEN. I have several years experience working with children with specific learning difficulties including dyslexia, autism, sensory difficulties and more.

I wanted a couple of booster sessions in maths and English for my daughter before she took some entrance exams to a private school, and also some hints and tips for Non-verbal reasoning. She was very accommodating and fitted us in at short notice. Amy was great with my daughter. She was very encouraging and concentrated on enhancing what she already knew rather than worrying about what she didn`t. She also helped with some exam techniques and boosted her confidence. Result was my daughter passed the exams and was offered a place at the school of our choice.

Amy quickly made my daughter feel comfortable despite maths being her least favourite subject. Amy has been responsive, polite, friendly and flexible. Amy has excellent subject knowledge and has structured a programme that compliments my daughters learning at school. I have noticed my daughters confidence levels with numbers growing since Amy has started working with her. I would have no hesitation in recommending Amy.

Amy responded to my enquiry very quickly and has been very helpful andflexible in trying to find mutually convenient time slots at short notice. My 10 year-old daughter can be shy but feels confident with Amy. My daughter`s Maths and English has improved noticeably.

I have been studying for my QTS skills teaching exams and being a mature student, who hasn`t done exams for a long time, I was finding these difficult and unachievable. I felt I needed some tuition to get me in the right zone and to build my confidence. I am also dyslexic and found the whole experience of exams terrifying.
Amy`s calm, non-judgmental approach was key. I won`t of had the confidence to have continued with my teaching training if is wasn`t for the support and guidance given by Amy.
Amy`s knowledge and experience of what is required to pass the QTS skill tests is extremely good. Amy has tutored myself in both English and Maths and my confidence has grown dramatically. I would highly recommend Amy as a Tutor.

Amy teaches our 10 year old maths and English and our 13 year old English. She is always punctual, well-prepared and enthusiastic. She engages at an appropriate level and helps to build confidence. We thoroughly recommend her.
