Information about Ruth
My name is Ruth , I am native British living in Malta, and I have a BA Honours degree in English Literature and Creative Writing at a 2:1 as well as experience with teaching English in a classroom environment.
I have experience with teaching beginners, advanced students, children, teenagers, adults, native speakers, and non-native speakers.
My passion for teaching began when I started further education. After leaving school, I hit a cross roads in my life, and it was only after experiencing and living in the real world, I knew what I wanted to achieve. I took myself back into education and studied Sociology, Psychology and Criminology, and then went on to complete my degree. In the summer of 2018, I took it upon myself to complete my TEFL certificate. I knew I wanted to teach abroad, but I also hated the thought of not learning for three months. TEFL has taught me ample things and has opened my mind to how English natives take the language for granted. I was blown away with the didactic PPP teaching methods and student satisfaction: this is something I wanted to be able to achieve, the feeling of knowing I have helped my students learn something new, and to share the accomplishment they feel.

Experience: My job to date is Teaching English as an ESL Teacher at Maltalingua School of English. From this, I have experience with ages 5 up to 20+, with differing levels (beginners to advanced). I took a didactic approach to my teaching while ensuring lessons were fun, yet educational, and I always catered to each students need. I planned lessons daily as well as creating extra resources as back-up in case students finished early, or lessons were too complex or lacking complexity. Within this role, the emphasis was on encouraging spoken English and grammar, thus I believe I fulfilled my role to a great standard.
I also taught first-year English degree students and helping them adapt to university life (which can be a daunting experience). Being a PASS* leader at my university was nourishing as I have a strong desire to help and guide people. Within this role, I tutored my students and helped them with English modules, feedback for their assignments, how to write academically, and much more. I also attended de-briefing sessions weekly with my co-workers to which we shared ideas and spoke about the students progress, as well as filling out relevant paper work, and lesson planning weekly to make my classes as enjoyable as possible, yet also didactic and student-centred.
