Information about Melanie
I am a experienced Deaf BSL tutor and have undertaken qualifications with Signature and the Institute of British Sign Language. My qualifications can be viewed on Tutor Hunt. I have been using BSL professionally for 8 years, working in the primary, secondary and college educational sector. I now tutor online. I am able to come into places of work to take deaf awareness courses as well as teach British Sign language.

Experience: I have worked in colleges around London as well as Deaf schools. I tutor BSL 1-1 or in a larger group. I am an experienced BSL tutor and now work online. I am also able to take deaf awareness courses in places of work. I get real satisfaction watching people’s skills and confidence improve.I want people to enjoy their lesson and get the most out of it. All my lessons are set for each individuals as I recognise that everyone is different, even though they may be at the same level. I tutor people that are complete beginners right up to level 6. I`ve been really pleased with my sessions with Melanie. She has great ideas for teaching which challenge me to improve but at the same time she is kind and encouraging so that the lessons are enjoyable. Will definitely be asking for more sessions with her.

I have been studying with Melanie since completing my BSL Level 1. Not wanting to loose what I had learnt, and also to prepare for level 2. Melanie has introduced me to new elements of the BSL language curriculum, with a segment of general conversation incorporated into each lesson. Somehow Melanie makes learning BSL feel really easy, and the language a joy to learn. My confidence has grown immensely and I come away from each lesson with a feeling of achievement and anticipation for what I will be learning next. Melanie teaches with "voice box off" which for me enhances the lessons by transporting me into the world of deaf communication, strengthening my concentration, without which, I would not be able to learn. Her lessons are full and structured, she is a very kind teacher, yet professional at the same time. I hope to continue with Melanie throughout my BSL learning and would highly recommended her to anyone who wishes to learn BSL.

Mel is an incredibly friendly and easygoing teacher. I started out not knowing much BSL, and after a couple of weeks I found myself understanding most of what Mel is signing during the lessons. She is clearly very experienced in teaching BSL and is always patient when explaining something I don’t understand. I always look forward to lessons with Mel and will continue to do lessons with her until I’m fluent in BSL. Couldn’t ask for a better teacher and the lessons are affordable aswell! Thank you!
