Information about Nik
Struggling with your degree or didn`t get the A-Level, or GCSE results you were hoping for? Need to resit some exams next year? Don`t worry, I can help you pull your grades up.
A lot of the time the problem lies with difficulty performing under exam conditions. This is not something taught by teachers at schools, who have to focus solely on the content of the syllabus. I offer an approach to teaching with equal focus on scientific content and exam technique tailored to each individual student`s needs.
I`m a skilled communicator with a passion for teaching and many years of experience tutoring a number of different subjects including chemistry, biology, maths (statistics for biosciences).
As a scientist currently working in the research field I feel I have an advantage over some school science teachers because I am more up to date with current practice and can give relevant examples to students. I have recently completed a PhD in Chemistry and have a number of published works on the topic of graphene electrochemistry.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
***How long is a lesson?***
Typically I teach in two hour sessions, but longer lessons can be arranged if necessary. Lesson times of less than an hour are not possible due to the fact that the subject matter and subsequent reinforcement of learning cannot be done successfully in less than two hours.
***How often should I have lessons?***
This is entirely up to you and your needs. It will also depend on when in the academic year you start tuition. If you are starting from September then fortnightly lessons may be sufficient, however if youre starting lessons after January then I would recommend weekly sessions. If youre preparing for your A-Levels then I would certainly recommend weekly lessons from February onwards, even if you have started out with fortnightly lessons. Lesson frequency of less than fortnightly is not recommended for anything other than tying up loose ends as it is just too long between lessons for things to sink in properly.
***Can you teach more than one student at a time?***
I prefer not to do this, but I have done so in the past. However, the hourly rate will be different, please get in touch for more information on this.
***Do you offer online tuition?***
Personally I feel that face to face lessons are more effective. But on the odd occasion I have had the need to teach online. Please enquire as to the logistics of this if you require online tuition.
***Where will the lessons be held?***
Lessons can be held at any residence of your choosing. The only thing I ask is that I will need to have a wireless internet connection. I try not to teach in public spaces like libraries and coffee shops, however I have done this on special occasions in the past. I am happy for you to come to my house for lessons if there is nowhere else suitable.
***How do I pay you?***
I am happy to be paid in cash or by bank transfer. All I ask is that payment is made before I leave at the end of the lesson so I dont have to dedicate extra time to chasing payments.
***Can we exchange contact details without paying for them?***
This is not possible as TutorHunt automatically censors any contact information that is sent before payment has been made. There is no way for me to circumvent this feature, even if I wanted to.
***When are you free for lessons?***
I teach on any weekday evening, with lessons needing to start no later than 5 pm. I am also free during the day, so if that is an option for you it will make it much easier to find a mutually convenient time. I also teach at the weekend. As for my current availability you will have to get in touch as it does change frequently.
***What happens if I need to cancel a lesson?***
This is totally fine and does happen from time to time. All I ask is that you give me at least 24 hours notice so that I can offer the space to another student.

Feedback For Nik (20)
An excellent tutor! He really improved my understanding of organic chemistry, improving my grade by 20% in one semester, and was an invaluable aid during a period where my studies were significantly disrupted by strikes by university staff and then coronavirus. The lessons were engaging, and neither was I ever bored, nor did I ever feel that the lessons were not worthwhile.
Nik is a great teacher. After one session, my daughter has already shown an improvement in one exam. Nik has also made arrangements to teach my daughter on-line during the coronavirus outbreak.
I have only been having lessons with Nik for 2 months and can already see a big difference with my knowledge and understanding of Chemistry, both in lesson time and in exam papers. He is very friendly and explains everything in a clear and understandable way. Definitely recommend.
Always on time and brilliant explaining exam questions and covering content
Very pleased with my daughters progress in chemistry since having lessons from Nik. Her confidence is growing. Nik is friendly and down to earth. He makes the lessons interesting. Would strongly recommend.
Very helpful. Tailors the lessons to what I want to do and ensures that I understand everything I am unsure about.
Nik has been tutoring my Daughter to support her with the Chemistry side of her biomedical foundation uni course. Since the sessions she has become more confident with this subject. She finds Nik to be very knowledgable and easy to understand. He has been flexible in terms of appointments and changed sessions at short notice to suit her uni studies. The sessions have given her more confidence and have helped her through this difficult and stressful time. I would not hesitate in recommended Nik.
Nik is a very knowledgeable `A` Level Chemistry tutor. Very happy with the work he has done so far for us.

Great tutor - very helpful
In the short time we`ve had Nick he`s done an amazing job in helping our son become confident in chemistry from failing it, to excelling in his class. Furthermore he`s integrated seamlessly in our way of life, helping our son out in more than just chemistry as well becoming a positive role model for him overall.
Great tutor who knows his stufff. Always punctual and makes sure that you know when lessons are. But the big positive is that he makes sure that you understand things and also really tries to up your grades.
So far so fantastic!
