Information about Louise

I am a fully qualified teacher based in Cambridge and I currently work as a progress tutor for the adult skills department at West Suffolk College, providing 1-1 and small group tuition in Functional Skills maths and English. I have a background in teaching English as a Foreign Language, Spanish and translation, and I was a home educator for 11 years, facilitating learning over a number of different subjects.

I would prefer to teach online (generally on Teams or Zoom) but would also consider teaching in person and have an advanced DBS check.

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss tutoring options for yourself or your child. I would particularly welcome enquiries from home educators or those considering elective home education, autistic learners and individuals with specific learning difficulties.

Availability: Various times on different weekdays, evenings and weekends - please enquire.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: 25+ years as a teacher and private tutor teaching children, young people and adults: basic literacy, EFL/ESOL, Functional Skills maths and English, GCSE Spanish.

I currently work with many young people and adults who have previously struggled with learning at school and are seeking to gain qualifications for further study or to improve their career prospects. My students have a variety of learning needs and difficulties, which have made studying in a mainstream setting a challenge. I am passionate about making learning accessible to everyone, and I prepare lessons around individual needs, abilities and learning styles.

I am happy to help with homework, and go over topics that learners have found challenging, breaking down questions and exploring different working methods. I also help with exam preparation, using past papers and mark schemes to help students understand the marking process. This builds confidence and improves exam pass rates.
