Information about Jordan
Hi, I`m Jordan and I`m currently a 4th year medical student at the University of East Anglia. Teaching is always something I`ve been interested in and something I hope to do in the future alongside being a doctor. I`m most interested in teaching KS3 and GCSE students and am also more than happy to offer any advice or tutoring to those applying to medical school since I received 4 offers from 4 applications when applying in 2017. Having spent a lot of time preparing for interviews and working on my personal statement I feel like I could be especially helpful in these areas.
In my A levels, I achieved AAA in maths, biology and chemistry and 8A*s and 2As in a range of GCSEs.
Science and maths are subjects I`m especially passionate about and have taught to fellow medical students. I feel that my comprehensive understanding on these subjects coupled with my willingness to put time aside to prepare for each lesson will go a long way in helping my tutees reach their maximum potential. My course being mostly online has provided me with more time during the week which I can dedicate to preparing each lesson.
I have lots of exam experience and therefore have developed a sound exam technique over the years, as well as an efficient way at working through large amounts of content. I have found that really understanding a subject is far more valuable than wrote learning and I believe that you should never move on until you fully understand each topic. In my teaching I use diagrams and analogies as well as exam style questions to get the best out of my students. Crucially, I want to emphasise the importance of asking questions and hope to make my students feel comfortable enough to ask any question whatsoever. Each student learns in different ways and I wish to tailor each lesson to the needs of my student, something which is not possible in a school environment.
As mentioned, I am also keen to offer guidance on medical school personal statements and interview techniques and am happy to offer mock interviews. I applied to the University of St Andrews, Liverpool University, Queen`s University Belfast and the University of East Anglia so have had a wide rage of interview experiences and received an offer for each of these applications.
Availability: I`m available from Wednesday to Sunday but Saturday and Sunday mornings suit me best.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have had several experiences of teaching in the last few years. In my degree we are required to teach our colleagues each week on a different learning outcome (subject), coming up with new ideas each week. I have been doing this for the past 3 years and have taught varied subjects from basic biology to complex physiology. I am also a professional tennis coach and coached for a year before I started university. Both of these roles have required creativity when thinking of new ways to engage my students and I have found them to be invaluable experiences. Similarly, I have coached football for a year with Norwich Medics Football Club when I was their captain in 2019/20 and this also required preparation and creativity. In terms of medical applications, I have given interview help to 3 applicants, all of whom successfully got into medical school.
