Information about Olivia

Sometimes we all need to be reminded why we like a subject so much and I think tutoring is the best way to do that. My sessions will focus on discussion on texts and topics that interest you, as this is the best way for you to gain more confidence in the subject. One of the most valuable things I have learned whilst being at university is that you don`t have to like every single book you study to still love English. Even if a book doesn`t initially interest you, there will still be something hidden that sparks your fascination! Exams and university applications can often detract from how much you otherwise enjoy a subject, but hopefully through tutoring sessions you can be reminded of this passion. Since sixth form at school I have been deeply invested in tutoring, leading group and individual tutoring sessions throughout the school day as well as doing private tuition. I also set up a reading group for younger students to encourage confidence and critical thinking. I have participated in homeless food and book distribution charities whilst at university, often discussing the books that have been shared whilst distributing food.

Experience: I am a highly motivated and focused individual, with a First Class Honours degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford. I am considered dynamic, highly intelligent and emotionally astute.

I have been tutoring privately and online for the past 6 years, specifically focusing on English, French and Classical Civilisations. I have been a tutor with MyTutor for the past 2.5 years, for which I research and deliver structured lessons for students aged between 11-36 across different exam boards. This experience has developed my prioritisation, coordination and communication skills (as well as my passion for teaching!) At the same time, I`ve also been a tutor for U2 Tuition, particularly supporting students with university applications. I deliver first-year Oxbridge level lessons as well as conducting mock interviews, which have enhanced my research and presentation skills.

In the summer of 2018, I was a summer intern for the Education Endowment Foundation for which I was a project lead for a government-funded programme review. I interviewed external stakeholders and reassessed post-trial data collection methods, to ensure programme reviews had the best interests of students at their core.
