Information about Alana

I am currently working as a Teaching Assistant in a dedicated environment for children with special educational needs that struggle with anxiety, social skills, and isolation and have difficulties with self-confidence. Subsequently, I am more than happy to work with primary school children from both a mainstream and SEN background. Prior to this, I completed a Psychology with Professional Placement BSc at Newcastle University achieving a high 2:1 and so I feel I am equip to tutor those who require Psychology GCSE and A Level help and support. I also achieved an A* in my Psychology A Level and A`s in Mathematics and History so, I am more than happy to provide support to students who are looking for assistance in these subjects. I am extremely patient and understand the importance of planning sessions in advance to make sure that students achieve the most out of the sessions.

Availability: I am available after school and in the evenings Monday - Friday and then all weekend.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: The experience I have gained in my current post has opened my eyes to different learning strategies that benefit different students. As well as this, I worked in Sri Lanka for 3 months on a mental health placement that enabled me to work on different projects including youth teaching, children`s teaching and special needs projects. Consequently, I believe I have the expertise to be a tutor because I am a good listener, excellent communicator and I have lots of creative ideas about the best ways to retain information and knowledge. This work placement boosted my confidence because I regularly stood up in front of classes and led group sessions in psychiatric hospitals. Sometimes, service users did not engage in sessions but I showed dedication by not giving up and continuing to work hard to see results. I have always juggled lots of different tasks inclusive of my education and extra-curricular activities and I have managed to do this because of my time management and organisational skills. I hope this displays my ability to be a supportive tutor and I am excited to work with those who require my services.
