Information about Alia

Hi! I am a postgraduate student based in South East London. I graduated from UCL last year from a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences, an interdisciplinary degree through which I mostly focused on gender studies. I am currently studying an MA in Social Justice and Education, also at UCL. I am very passionate about education and care very deeply about improving young people`s experiences of it, so tutoring is very valuable to me. I have also excelled in institutional education both in secondary school and throughout higher education (I achieved the highest graduating grade of the year both in school and in my undergraduate degree), and feel very confident in aiding students with their studies. Ultimately, I really enjoy teaching and tutoring and enjoy adopting creative, fun approaches to helping people in their engagement with knowledge. I am also bilingual (English and Spanish) and am able to tutor in either language.

Willing to travel: 4 miles

Experience: My tutoring experience began in my last year of school as a tutor for IB Literature and IB Spanish (both at beginner and intermediate levels). Moreover, during my undergraduate degree I worked as a private language tutor for a first year university student studying Spanish at beginner level. I also worked as a nanny for a family, taking care of a 3-year old girl, and have done several odd baby-sitting jobs so I also feel comfortable and confident working with younger children. Over the last two years, I have been involved in a volunteer-run project (as project leader as well as facilitator) that delivers workshops to students aged 12-14 in schools on topics related to social justice. As part of this, last year I worked delivering these workshops to a group of 10 students, using different interactive and creative pedagogical methods. This allowed me to develop skills and confidence in explaining complex ideas and concepts through accessible and fun activities.
