Good

Having just 41 pupils, Holm Cultram Abbey School is in the lowest category of attending students in the UK. With only 46.3% girls against 53.7% boys, the school has slightly more males than females. Schools maintain a record of attendance through a series of registration sessions at the beginning and end of the school day. With a 94.2% attendance rate, the attendance is below national average. Having only 2.7 members of staff makes it have a far lower number of staff than most other schools in the area. With a very low 15:1 teacher/student ratio, the classrooms of Holm Cultram Abbey School are very small, allowing the teachers to give attention to individual pupils` concerns.

KS2 exams are important to the pupils themselves as often secondary schools will use these results to determine which academic set to place the pupils. Students in higher sets are usually challenged more and are able to develop at a faster rate. This School achieved an average KS2 score of [#ischool2013ks2#TAPS#], which is far below the nations average. With an average salary of only £35548 , the wages of the teachers at the school are very far below the nations average. They have 100% of pupils speaking English as a 1st language, which exceeds the countrywide average.

Ofsted

About Ofsted

Ofsted have been inspecting schools on a regular basis since 2005. After a cursory warning period they undertake a thorough examination of the whole school. Inspectors will sit in on classes, assessing each teacher's teaching ability. They will also evaluate the way the current curriculum is implemented, and how the progress of each student is tracked throughout their tenure.

Each school is graded on a four point scale: 1 being outstanding, 2 being good, 3 means they require improvement, and 4 signifying inadequate. Those schools attaining an outstanding or good grade might not be re-inspected for as long as five years; while those receiving lower grades will be reassessed with greater frequency, with little or no notice prior to the inspectors arriving.
