Considering the present world scenario, energy is a resourse which needs to be used as thriftly as possible. Increasing the energy efficency of Industrial organizations is a major step towards acheiving this goal. Present research in Industrial energy efficiency is focused on a domain thats combines thermodynamics and economics. This field is called Thermoeconomics and involves the techniques of amalgamating exergy analysis with economics laws to measure efficiency in processes in the industrial setup. It not only measures efficiency, but is an excellent technique of measuring the impact of the processes on the environment. World leading researchers in this area are Timothy Gutowski (from MIT,USA), Marc Rosen (former chair of the engineering association of canada and founder of the international journal of exergy) and T Satsaronis, the founder of the concept of advanced exergetic analysis amoung others. This in a relatively new area of research as far as its applicability to the manufacturing sector is concearned but promises much value if properly researched and implemented.
