Cyber Crime: Prevent yourself from being a victim of Cyber Crime Cyber crime has become the biggest issue in the world with revolutino of PC (Personal Computer) and E-Transactoins. The revolution of PC and booming of internet in the world have introduce several new elements to cyber crime which make the cyber crime the most dangerous problem facing by the modern society. Childrens and innocent citizens becomes the vicitm very easily. According to Computer Crime Research Center: "Cybercrime is defined as crimes committed on the internet using the computer as either a tool or a targeted victim. It is very difficult to classify crimes in general into distinct groups as many crimes evolve on a daily basis. Even in the real world, crimes like rape, murder or theft need not necessarily be separate. However, all cybercrimes involve both the computer and the person behind it as victims, it just depends on which of the two is the main target." (http://www.crime-research.org) In the world of cyber crime several attack techniques are being used by the attacker as following. . Internet Social Engineering Attacks . Session Hijacking . Executable code attacks . Email propagation of malicious code . Packet spoofing . Network sniffers . Windows-based remote access . Phishing Techniques . Key-Logger Softwares In additoin to these attacks, there are several other attack techniques are being used. People should make sure that they are not going to become vicitim of such attacks. So, how do people protect theirself from such attacks ?. Following steps are the solution which will reduce 80% possibility of becoming victims of cyber attack. Steps 1. In your computer, Install latest antivirus software and never turn it off. 2. Never download/open email attachments whose source you don't know. 3. Never check mail or using credit card detail in cyber café & public places. It is not possible to make sure that whether keylogger software has installed on that PC or not. If anyhow you want to access from public PC, you have to use virtual keyborad which is available in OS (Operating System) itself. 4. Educate the people regarding cyber crime who are using your PC including your childrens, friends, colleague regarding cyber attacks. 5. Two different password should be used. One for routine work such as subscribing to different sites and other for mail, work and important access. If possible use different password for different logins or subscri ption. 6. Do not give away your residence phone number or cellphone number. Be carefull when you are filling content forms, free gift vouchers and coupons etc. these will obtain your personal detail. Don't trust it when they say that your personal detail will not be given to others. 7. Be habited of destroying documenation regarding credit cards, such as receipts, bills, passwords or any other document which contain personal details. If anyhow you want to keep those documentation, just follow following steps. This will not allow attackers to obtain such encrypted file. . Right click on file/folder in which your personal details has laid. . Go to properties. . Click on advance button under General Tab. . Please check mark "Encrypt Content to Secure Data" 8. Create difficult password with the combination of letter, digits and special characters. Never use a word itself. The word which can be found in dictionary is easy to guess. Hackers don't try these passwords by hand; they have programs that can quickly try all the words in a dictionary to gain access to computer quickly.
