You may have heard that some schools are looking to make their entrance examinations `tutor proof`. Why? There are those who argue that private tuition gives some children an unfair advantage. They have a point. Devoting time and work to any activity results in our doing it better and the things we do better we enjoy more. Success is very pleasant!

But can you `tutor proof` the joys of the English language? I don`t think so. A child who has a wide vocabulary, coupled with the grammatical tools to express herself or himself, who has learned how to organise ideas and to appreciate the writing of others, will navigate any examination format safely and successfully.

Does private tuition keep children indoors when they should be out exploring their environment? It should not. Does it replace tears and tantrums, lack of confidence or indifference with enthusiasm and the taste of success? Yes, it does!
