as you may already know Pythagoras theorem is used to work out the sides of a right angle triangle.

As any triangle a right angle triangle has 3 sides but in right angles these sides have names.

The longest side on the triangle is called the Hypotenuse (hyp) The side opposite the angle is called opposite or perpendicular And the last side is the side that is adjacent to the angle it is called the adjacent (adj)

the formula for Pythagoras is a squared + b squared = c squared

(a) and (b) are the adjacent and opposite and (c) is the hypotenuse
