1) Adequate preparation. Leave yourself plenty of time and at minimum, several months of practice is required in order to gain familiarisation of the techniques. Preparation from a Year 4 level is reasonable to ensure that your child gets sufficient practice. With about 1-2 hours a week with a tutor and another 3-4 hours of homework time at home, your child should be adequately prepared.

2) Practice within the specified time frame is essential.

3) Access to a wide range of 11+ exam specific material is crucial for exposure to a variety of questions. Your tutor should provide you with this.

4) Adopt a methodological approach rather than an ad hoc one. Record new vocabulary and learn it.
