My name is Yanyan Case, an experienced Mandarin Teacher based in Derby. Mandarin learning is becoming more and more desirable worldwide and hopefully you are not out of the trend. Voices from the UK Many recent reports have stressed that Mandarin is vital for the economic future of our country, and is increasingly a world language. It also introduces pupils to the concept that not all languages use Roman scri pt. The Education Minister Elizabeth Truss said: "Mandarin is the language of the future - it is spoken by hundreds of millions of people in the world's most populous country and shortly the world's biggest economy". The education secretary Michael Gove also indicated early this year that Mandarin will be one of the compulsory languages for England`s primary schools in an overhaul of the national curriculum by year 2014. Global figures The number of Chinese learners worldwide has exceeded 40millian currently. There are more than 3000 higher education institutes in 109 countries have started Mandarin Chinese, especially the enthusiasm from Primary and Secondary schools is increasing dramatically. There are more than 1000 schools in the US, 500 in Japan, have started Chinese teaching with learners exceeding 2 million. Chinese has already been listed as a high school compulsory subject in South Korea. Inspiration, motivation, experience I am very encouraged and reassured by the above facts that Mandarin learning has been becoming an inevitable trend worldwide, and I am eager to develop my career further with local schools in Derby. I currently run a weekly Mandarin Club for Repton School. The students have shown huge interests towards it either because of the totally different concept of a language, or for international business needs. I also do private Chinese teaching in the Old Vicarage School. I gained most Chinese teaching experience when I worked for Hainabaiwang Language Centre in Beijing teaching business Chinese to adults in 2007(please refer to my CV), as well as daily teaching to my English family members, and Sunday school teaching in Chinese Methodist Church in Derby. My first degree is in Broadcasting &TV Representing Journalism which professionally trained me with high standard of Mandarin skills, including pronunciation, speech, grammar, writing etc. Having been deeply rooted in the English culture myself, I have the advantage of better understanding both cultures which I have found very important when communicating with pupils during teaching. Furthermore, I am very easy-going and creative. I always make friends with pupils. I could bring Chinese culture and Chinese experience to the pupils through various events to create a Chinese environment for them to explore. Fortunately, the Chinese government has attached huge importance and efforts on introducing Chinese language and culture to the world. There are also teacher training opportunities, Chinese learning support and textbooks supplies offered by the Chinese Education Authorities, which are my very powerful back support. So we are not alone here! I am dedicated to embracing the exciting opportunity and contributing my expertise along the trend, as well as realizing my personal value. I am happy to offer any type of Mandarin teaching including out of school clubs, curriculum, even a taster session. Charges are negotiable depending on actual circumstances ranging between £20-£30 per hour. I hope you find this article interesting. Please do not hesitate to contact me by all means if you do think I could be of any help. Thanks for your time.
