When I first started teaching piano more than 20 years ago I decided to limit my students to children ages 6-17 years of age. I never really saw myself including adults to my student list... until I moved to the UK in 2008.

When I first started advertising my private piano tuition here I noticed that there were so many adults who wanted to learn to play the piano. At first I was quite apprehensive to accept until my husband told me why not give it a try and if it doesn`t work out I can always advertise for private tuition to children only. Boy, was I glad I decided to heed my husband`s advice!

Teaching adult beginners has been a lovely teaching experience for me. All my adult beginners have shown such keen interest in learning to play the piano. I always tell them, just like I tell all my other students, that practice is very very imporatant if they want to progress. Coming for lessons once a week for half and hour isn`t enough if they want to progress so one really needs to practice as much as they can to develop their piano skills.

One of my adult beginners started with me less than two years ago and can now play Moonlight Sonata and Fur Elise with much ease. That makes me very proud! Even with a hectic work schedule he still finds time to practice often and come to his weekly lessons regularly. His commitment to learning has paid off tremendously.

So I say,if you are an adult and want to learn to play the piano, or any instrument for that matter, for the first time then go for it! It is never too late to learn. Just make sure you have the time, commitment and patience to learn.

I love teaching adult beginners so why not give yourselves a chance to learn!
