Summer Holiday: Yes, It`s A Holiday, But Here`s How To Get Ahead

Read. Read. And then read a little bit more.

I know. You`ve heard it before. But it`s true. The more you read, the better you`ll get at creative writing. And your literature essays will be richer too.

Your teachers may well suggest texts to read. If they don`t, email me with a little bit about your age, stage, and what you enjoy and I`ll make some suggestions. No charge.

If you don`t massively enjoy reading start with short stories. Or plays. And read ones about a subject you`re already interested in. Try and read one a week. And then, once you`ve done that for a month, try two a week. Reading is a habit, and starting small and manageable really helps.

Don`t worry about taking notes, just read.
