Algebra Rules

1. A figure and a letter cannot be added, subtracted or divided. They can only be multiplied.

Eg. X+2, X-2, X 2 are impossible. But Y 2 = 2y.

2. Two different letters cannot be added, subtracted or divided, they can only be multiplied.

Eg. a+b, a-b, a b are impossible. But a b = ab

3. Same letters can be added, subtracted, divided and multiplied. p+p =2p. 3y - 2y = y, 6d 3d = 2. m 2m = 2m^2.

4. When you add, subtract or divide letters, they carry a whole number and the letter. But when you multiply letters, they carry power.

Eg. a + a= 2a, 2b - b = b, 3c c = 3, a a = a^2

5. Every letter has an invisible + and 1 behind it. Eg. y = +1y. Also, every number has an invisible plus behind it. Eg. 5 = +5.

6. The LCM of a letter and 1 is the letter. Eg. LCM of n and 1 is n.

7. There is an invisible times ( ) between a figure and a letter. Eg. 6y is the same as 6 y.

8. For equations, whenever a letter or figure is moved from one side to the other, its sign changes. pe Your Article Here
