The Science of Learning
In the last few decades, extensive research has been conducted to understand how the human brain works, and how we learn. I use these findings and embedded them into my 1:1 lessons to ensure students are able to make the most progress possible.
Contextualised LearningWhen introducing a topic, I always make sure students know why they re learning it. Contextualised learning creates eagerness to learn, a trait that is not only useful for academic study, but also the world beyond it.
GamificationBy using gamification in my lessons students are able to effectively absorb the information and commit it to their long-term memory, because the knowledge itself is linked to the favourable experience.
Corrective FeedbackI always mark exam questions and give personalised feedback. The feedback given redirects or refocuses the learner s actions to achieve a goal, by aligning effort and activity with an outcome.
Retrieval PracticeI test students on their knowledge throughout their lessons. Even if they remember it the first time around, I ll test them again and again over time to make sure it s in there for the long term.
