Children are amazing. While you are still unpacking, they seem to be learning the new language and culture through the air.

One of the best things about moving to a new country is seeing how quickly your children adjust and how clever they are - but it make you feel that you can`t care for your child well when you are just beginning to learn English. Here are some suggestions:

- Work hard on learning English yourself. While the children are in school, listen to English radio or TV. Practice saying the words at home and then when you are in public. Don`t be afraid of making mistakes; speak as clearly as you can. Use a tool like Google Translator to learn how to say whole sentences. Don`t just read silently - say the English words out loud!

- Find a friend who speaks both English and your language to go with you to meetings with doctors and teachers, and to help you understand letters from them. Sometimes tutors are willing to help you in this way; it is a very good way to learn words you really need to know!

- Choose to be positive about the change. It is normal to feel bad sometimes about such a big adjustment. But your children will respect and admire you if you are strong and cheerful. At the end of each day, review what you have learned and done. Writing it down will help you see how much you are accomplishing!

- Take care of yourself. Eat healthy foods, get as much sleep as you need, and get exercise every day. These things will help you learn English more quickly and feel better.
