Unlike Biology and Chemistry, there isn`t a lot of memorisation needed for Physics. You can`t get by with just writing out summary cards and reading the revision guide. You have to be more active in your studying to help you properly understand and apply the concepts in order to solve problems.

Here are 3 things you can do:

1) In your lessons or revision sessions with a teacher, ask LOTS of questions. Even if you think it`s not important, you should still ask so it`s clear. If you regularly ask questions you will be more involved in your lessons and will remember them better.

2) When you make notes or mindmaps for revision, do them without looking at the textbook or slides. To better retain information, you should try to write it just from your memory instead of copying it out. After you finish writing everything you can remember, look at the textbook and add in anything you missed.

3) Do a variety of practice questions so you get familiar with the formulas and learn to rearrange them and combine them when needed. When you are doing practice questions, try them by yourself first and if you get stuck, ask a teacher or friend for help before you check the markscheme. If you rely on the markscheme too much, you won`t learn from your mistakes. A good source of practice questions is the textbook summary questions or past exam papers.

Although you do tests on your own, when you are studying it is good to collaborate with others, like your tecaher or classmates, in order to get multiple perspectives on one problem. This will help you to be more creative in your problem solving and you will learn different ways of thinking.
