Averages
This is how I would typically describe averages (mean, mode, median, range)
Date : 05/12/2021
Range
The range is the difference between the smallest and largest number. e.g. the range of the list 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 8, 10 is going to be 8, as the largest number is 10 and the smallest is 2. We then subtract them, so 10-2 and this gives us our answer of 8.
Mode
The mode is the number that appears the most in a number list, or an item that appears the most in worded lists. e.g. in the list 5, 6, 6, 7, 8, 9, 9, 9, 10, 11, 12 our mode is 9 as it appears the most.
Mean
The mean is calculated by adding all of our numbers together and dividing by how many numbers there are. e.g. in the list 2, 4, 4, 5, 7, 8 we find the mean by adding all the numbers together (which equals 30) and dividing by how many numbers we have (6) so our answer here would be 30/6=5
Median
The median is the middle number in a list of numbers that are in ascending order (smallest to largest). To find the median we can either just cross of numbers either side of the list until you meet in the middle. Or you can use the formula n+1/2 where n is the amount of numbers we have, the answer is the number we go to in the list, e.g. if there is 7 numbers we would do 7+1/2 which is 4, so the 4th number in the list is our median.
