Prime numbers by definition only have two factors that is to say the number itself 1. Example of prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 but not 9 as there are 3 factors of 9 ie 1, 3, 9.

So the original question is 14361 a prime number?

The approach would be to establish if 14361 has only 2 factors. For this we may need use other key facts such as is the number even or in this case is there another factor in existence other than 1 and 14361.

In fact there is. By adding the digits 1+4+3+6+1 = 15 which is a multiple of 3 therefore 14361 is divisible by 3. You may know this key fact already if not you do now.

The conclusion is 14361 is not a prime number as it has more than 2 factors.
