For English Reading or Writing exams, you will be required to identify, quote and demonstrate language techniques.
So what are they?
Language techniques/devices or structures are a set of words or phrases which are designed to create an effect in the reader, persuade or entertain. In other words make the text more interesting and appealing. Here are some examples
My love is a rose (metaphor) or My girlfriend is magic
He was as cool as a cucumber (similie) `as` turns the metaphor into a similie, you can also use `like` instead of `as`
The tree stepped back in awe of the child (personification) giving an object human qualities
There are many more examples of how you can write creatively and it is not unusual to have more than one language technique in the same sentence. For example, `the yolk of the yellow yacht was yet to mature` using alliteration, and personification. An easier example to spot is in `red, red rose remembered` using repetition, alliteration and personification.
Come on line through Teams or Zoom and enjoy writing and reading more fun examples of how language can be used through your chosen music or topics of interest.
I look forward to sharing with you. Kindest regards, Lisa.
