How Do I Learn Key Quotations?
Date : 28/01/2021
Firstly, you need to identify the key quotations from a text you a studying.
Categorise the quotations to match key themes, characters or exam questions from the text.
Repetition and consistency is key to learning quotations.
Here are a few successful revision techniques:
- Use flashcards - write the theme/character on one side and the quotation on the other. Go through a new theme or character set of cards daily.
- Use cloze activities - Write out the quotations with missing words. Fill in the gaps.
- Use post-it notes - Use a different colour post-it note for each category. Add key quotes on the post-it notes. Add them around your house. e.g. Around the bathroom mirror, so you can read a couple whilst brushing your teeth.
- Use the spaced repetition technique - Categorise the quotations into what you feel very confident about, confident, OK and not OK. Read the not OK quotations daily, OK every other day, the confident quotes weekly and the very confident fortnightly. Quotes should be moved to other categories depending on whether you feel more or less confident with them.
