Zoom is an incredibly effective platform for online teaching, with many features that facilitate engaging lessons.

Pupils just need a quite space and an internet-connected device. A few minutes before the lesson is due to begin, the pupil will need to click on the Zoom link previously sent to the parent/carer s email address.

In my Zoom lessons, I share pre-prepared PowerPoint presentations and use the interactive whiteboard Zoom feature which tutor and pupil can both annotate/draw/type on in different colours.

I use a headset with microphone (to reduce audio feedback and background noise) and a digipen (writing tablet). I also have a visualiser - also known as a document camera which I use when sharing worksheets, books, 3D objects, or demonstrating how to use a protractor, as it gives a top-down view so that pupils can see exactly what I m doing.

There are many online resources (including maths manipulatives), applications, videos and diagrams which can be viewed using the screen sharing option, meaning I can present my screen in real time to my pupils. The bonus here is that the screen can be annotated on so that tutor and pupil can interact with the content.

There is a reactions feature which is a great way of giving non-verbal feedback.

There is also the option to record the lesson so the pupil can watch it later, if they need reminding of a certain method.

For setting homework tasks, pre-prepared resource files can be sent to pupils through the chat function.
