Paragraph structuring is a common query in essay based subjects. Examiners like well-structured paragraphs because they`re easier to read and help the essay to flow. It`s a good idea to figure out one or two methods early on and apply them all in your essays.

The method I recommend and like to use myself is PEE(E) for Point, Example, Explanation (Expand). You state the point you want to make, you provide an example from the text (usually a quotation, though not always) and you explain how the example you have chosen demonstrates your point. (If you want to, you can take the point further by providing another example or including some contextual information.) Let`s see this in practise:

Point: In his poem, `Exposure`, Wilfred Owen uses language to explore the theme of war, particularly the horrors of fighting.

Example: The repeated use of the pronouns `our` and `we` demonstrate how Owen belongs to the situation he describes.

Explanation: The speaker is sharing in the suffering caused by the war. The pronouns refer to soldiers fighting but also to the reader who feels drawn into the battlefield and therefore included in this suffering.

(Expand: Owen feels a strong sense of injustice about the way soldiers are being treated. As the title of the poem suggests, he sets out to `expose` this.)
