Reading is essential to make your child succeed at an English exam.
But how to get your child to read? Children do nor always read what you want them to read. They prefer browsing the Internet or using their phones. Here below I give you some methods how to get your child to read:
1. Ensure there is nothing in the room to disrupt the reading. If there are any devices, take them to your room, disconnect phones, WhatsApp s internet.
2. Choose the books that would interest your child: classics are great but you need to get used to them. Therefore if you would like to start with them: start with short stories: Roald Dahl, Oscar Wilde, O Henry depending on what your child might like.
3. Start reading yourself. This is also very important: parents example. Why don t you sit together to read books? lt;/span>
4. Set a time limit for your book reading session . Does not need to be long : it can be even 10 or 15 minutes.
5. If you would like your child to get reading why dint you start with some poetry. Women s hour on BBC is great for some war poems, Alan Alsn Milen When we were young. Or Now we are six. Get your child to repeat poems snd possibly learning them by heart.
6. Consider usage of audiobooks. Membership on audible or other source libraries is very useful. You can listen to them in the car while you are taking your child to after school activities or before bedtime.
To sum it all up, reading is a gray pastime and if you get into a good habit it will help your child a lot in life.
