As it isn t a very diverse island, many of my peers, seem uneducated about their actions, and also seem to have very racist opinions , when one student acts or says something racist, no one around seems to pick up on it, as if they have been brought up this way. On multiple occasions I have heard peers around me use racist language as if it was an everyday word, this really alerted me to how badly they need to be educated on their behaviour. How can they act like this and get away with it? And why are they not educated on it?
These rhetorical questions could be extended so that they refer back to your opening statement or the title of your speech. For example, `And why are they not educated on racism and its effects in today`s society` - or something like that. Not too long ago, my neighbours were moving out, and new ones were moving in. When talking to the new neighbours we found out that the previous owners sold to them because they felt sick at the thought of the other couple who were black- living in their house. Hearing this was disgusting and makes you realise how apparent racism is in our society. Connective needed here - I had a friend in primary school, who was made fun of for speaking a different language and was left out of games because she was from a different country. As a developed country it really is alarming at the amount of racism still around in our daily lives. Society is greatly affected by racism, no one is born hating someone else for their skin colour, they are taught that, they learn that, they inherit that - what do they inherit? Racist attitudes?. As a society we should teach next generations about respect and inclusivity, not abusing people for something you can t control. You must call out, correct and educate your family if they have racist views, you can do that and you should do that. Culturally, we should be embracing others traditions and lifestyles, we should learn from them, and also teach them ours, and not tell them they are wrong, or that they are in our country so they must do it our way
. Racism in politics is sadly too common, and with people in such public view saying/posting such racist things, its only promoting racism, and instead should use their platform and visibility to help educate others and put an end to the racist behaviour.
