Simultaneously, the theme of freedom acts paramount in Night Wind. This can be evoked from the structure, as the random enjambment adds to the speed of the restless wind and mimics the way the wind moves, as it s random and unfettered. Furthermore, the structure of the poem is very free and it s almost as if we are in the speakers stream of consciousness and following his thought process. This sense of freedom gives the wind a whimsical effect, echoed by the music , which is heard by the speaker. A lexical field comprising of thrum and percussion is used to illustrate this idea of an orchestra, yet these concepts are raucously contrasted with sibilous clamour and banging , evoking an overwhelming feeling to the speakers thoughts. The poem changes mood and continues to narrate the diverse features of the wind using many oxymorons, which again, emphasize its ability to be extremely liberal. The way that it can go from blowing through all the worlds , encompassing vast spaces, to blowing into trees , tiny spaces and creating music , in which can be thrum or clamour signifies how the wind can be anything it aspires to be, leaving the speaker in envy. The speaker then experiences freedom himself, after being taken into the winds giddy rush. We soar with the reader as he is leaping and striding below the Milky Way , all sprightly and unrestricted movements, emphasising this idea of freedom. The idea of soaring under starry skies emphasises the freedom to a certain extent because it alludes to the idiom the sky is the limit , which is something one would say when there is no limit to what something or someone can achieve. This gives the wind a sense of eminence, as it can do what it wishes.
