Nouns denote people, things, animals, concepts and processes.

They are distinguished by number and can be singular or plural. For example, book vs books- ending an -s to the end of the noun. This is inflectional morphology.

They can combine with determiners to forma noun phrase. For example, the book, those books.

They usually function as subjects (the beginning of the sentence, before the verb) or as a direct or indirect object (after the verb.)

Different types of nouns:

Proper nouns usually a name of a person or place. For example, Mrs Smith and England. Common nouns the majority of nouns. For example, dog, pen and photo.
