Learning a foreign language can INCREASE the size of your brain. Research has shown that language learning, at all stages in life has so huge benefits. Obviously, one is able to communicate with speakers of the language. Language learning opens up a new part of the brain and increases one s intelligence.

Swedish scientists have used brain scans to monitor what happens when someone learns a new language. They, along with other researchers, are using brain imaging to learn about how we learn languages. Tools used include electrophysiology this is a test that records the electrical activity and the electrical pathways of your heart. An electrophysiological test reveals what is happening in our brains when we hear, understand and produce second languages.

Learning a new language keeps the mind active, stimulated and in tip top condition. It actually opens up and extends a part of the brain called the Broca s area. The Broca s area is in the frontal area of the brain. Your first language and second language are actually spatially separated in this area. Ready for some exciting news? Second language learning is a major way of maintaining one s intellect and actually improving one s intelligence with increasing age. Fantastic ! Even more important is the fact the language learning is ONE way of preventing dementia. We all know that dementia is a serious global issue. Here s a fun way of keeping one s mind fit, healthy and active.
