The Importance Of Formulaic Writing.

I prescribe a method that eases the fear factor when it comes to writing under pressure. If a student is armed with a formula on how to structure responses before they enter the examination hall, their main focus is not how to write but what to write: they have the plan already installed and concentrate on finding aspects of the text which they can apply it to. Responses can then be tailored to the assessment objectives - of course this takes time and plenty of practice - but the results are considerable. The main problem with writing under pressure is veering away from the demands of the question and a student must keep referring back to the method that systematically ticks off all the areas of assessment. This can be applied to all disciplines and is the way academics and journalists work to.
