1) Know your syllabus. Complete ALL mixed exercises from each book chapter. Follow up on mistakes with corrections. Write down a list of your Problem Questions on the front of work so that you can address them at a later date with your teacher or tutor.

2) Marking. Complete a number of questions before marking. Don t be tempted to have answers in front of you when you mark your work. Mark you work harshly. Penalise incorrect rounding or incorrect units etc.

3) Past Papers. Complete as many as you can - more than 10, or 20 if possible. File them in your folder in chronological order, tracking your scores and Problem Questions on a spreadsheet. There s always more past papers, just look online, MathsandPhyicstutor is great for a comprehensive collection of past papers.

4) Practice areas of weakness. If you keep making mistakes on a particular topic, go back to the book to study similar examples, or use Solomon worksheets etc and do 1 question from each exercise. If still struggling, try ExamSolutions website for great video explanations.

5) Mix it up. The more resources you use, the better you will become at recognising similar questions asked in different ways. Use MyMaths lessons and HW tasks (you can try them without you teacher having to set them!). Even using questions from a different exam board (just make sure it s in your syllabus).

6) Plan your revision. Make a realistic revision schedule, but don t make it too prescri ptive. The likelihood is that you won t stick to it to the nearest minute anyway. Give yourself little rewards (a kitkat, a mug of hot choc etc) when you do more than you planned.

7) Get into a pattern. Binge revision should be avoided, and only done as a last resort. Set your alarm during revision days so that you make the most of each day. Remember to get a good amount of regular sleep, so that you are in a good pattern when it comes to the exam.

8) Finally, get a good tutor! I would say that, but it could make even that slight difference to get you up to the next grade. However, you cannot replace hard work with having a tutor.
