Finding your way through the maze of the theatre industry nowadays can be daunting. There are so many people wanting their name in lights, especially in London, that it is easy to give up before you even start.

I have now been in the `industry` for 3 years, since I graduated from East 15 Acting School. It hasn`t been without its testing times but at the root of it all has been the love of what I do and finally I feel like I have found my own rhythm and am enjoying life as an Artistic Director and Mentor.

The key to this has been positivity. Something that seems like an obvious thing on paper, but not so easy in actuality. In a world full of funding cuts and under-paid jobs, the majority of people will tell you it is impossible to follow your dream. But it isn`t. Talent is essential, determination even more so, a thorough knowledge of your craft, training and enjoyment of what you do but most of all a good positive attitude towards the world will push you in the direction you are meant to go in.

Success happens when preparation meets opportunity.

Preparation, or training in this case, is essential, not just one course, or one lesson, but a constant honing of skills throughout life is so important to not become complacent or stale.

Opportunities to get in touch with people, meet, talk and collaborating is vital too.

BUT, neither of these things are achievable if your head isn`t in the right place. Life is to be enjoyed. You can certainly tell those performers who don`t enjoy it and invariably, those people are not employed consistently through their lives.

Get out there, talk to people, keep improving yourself, live, love and laugh.
