Regardless of the exam board studied, simply analysing your favourite sport should help you to learn hard facts required for your exams. I`ve had a pretty successful career in rugby union, playing 7 seasons in the Welsh Premiership, never finishing outside the top three and reaching the final of the Welsh Cup on the Millennium Stadium. Having taught PE for 10 years it is clear that virtually any topic can be applied to rugby and equally to other sports. So, when the going gets tough in an exam and the pressure is on, surely it makes sense that you are going to think about the sport you find the most interesting when trying to come up with an answer! Take these examples, drawn from GCSE and A Level - Movement analysis - kicking a rugby ball, lifting in a lineout. Goal Setting - SMART(ER) targets relating directly to rugby, components of fitness and methods of training, skill acquisition - decision making - 2v1, technology and science - baselayers, SportsCode, energy systems and the energy continuum. I challenge anyone to find a topic within PE that has no relation to rugby union. So when you find yourself in an exam and you`re starting to panic, what better position to be in than to be able to relate your reasoning to your favourite sport!
