Exam Success- Luck OR Strategy?

Is there still anything like Luck?

Why is it that two students seemly with same study timetable having read same study text and revised same series of past Q&A, one Fails while the other Passes?

Most people will answer `Luck` right away. But on a second thought, is there really such thing like Luck?

A quick rundown on people that are successful suggests (and will always suggest) that success doesn’t come by Luck. The true difference between the two students in the above scenario lies in ‘strategy’ and that is what one student has and the other doesn’t. One has a calculated plan of how to leverage Strengths, access Opportunities while minimizing Weaknesses.

Most of us are conversant with the saying ‘if you fail to plan then you plan to fail’. Yes that’s the Gospel truth. You must have an effective exam strategy in order to pass even the lest challenging exam. I categorized Exam strategy into Pre-exam strategy and Exam-hall strategy. Both are equally important and complement each other.

Pre-exam strategy includes a ‘exam focused’ study and revision timetable, setting an effective exam-hall strategy and mastering it using past questions. Setting an exam-hall strategy is simply how you plan to put down your knowledge and deliver what is required of you within the given exam duration.

Exam-hall strategy includes sticking to a mastered effective exam hall strategy.

If your presently mastered exam strategy is not giving you a pass then obviously it’s not good enough. There is no shame in amending it or dropping it entirely. This is where you may need Help!

So, why not focus on getting a robust exam strategy rather than praying for Luck?
